B.E.A.M.E.R.S 

“B.E.A.M.E.R.S.” is an acronym for Berkmar Educators, And, Mentees, Expecting Real Success. This Program was founded in 2009 by Terrance Banks, Trevan Moore, Erik Robinson and Emanuel Williams. The target audience is male students who may benefit from having a mentor.  Topics covered in this program include study skills exercises, classroom/social etiquette, social skills exercises, interviewing/job skills, and teamwork challenges. Some of the ongoing guidance that will be discussed during our meetings are: making right choices, common sense, conflict resolution, finances, manhood, higher education, alternative careers, career development and powers of the mind.  Contact Trevan Moore or Roland Yancy for more information. 

 

 

 

Boy with a Ball

Boy With a Ball is a world-wide organization that works to help improve community relations. At Berkmar High School, the program that is initiated is called Velocity, which is a cross age mentoring program where high schoolers mentor Berkmar Middle School students. The program is open to all high school students and involves an extensive after school leadership training program for mentoring middle school students.

 

Community Based Mentoring

Studies show that successful mentoring programs help students develop social skills, improve their school achievement, increase graduation rates, build character, and many other benefits. Understanding these components, GCPS has proactively developed a Community-Based Mentoring program to connect caring adults in the community with male and female students to provide guidance, encouragement, and support to help them become successful young adults, both in and out of school. 

Also, if you are looking to give back to the community, the Gwinnett County Community Based Mentoring Program is looking for volunteers to become mentors. They will provide free training. Contact Delinda Coffey for more information about the Community Based Mentoring Program.  

 

T.R.U.E. 

T.R.U.E is a program that provides additional learning opportunities, specifically designed for our young ladies here at Berkmar, who can benefit from a positive support group. T.R.U.E  provides guidance and direction, as well as the soft skills necessary to be successful young women, while in high school and beyond Berkmar. “T.R.U.E Mentorship Program” (Transformed, Refined, Unique, Educated), will consist of various activities such as study skills exercises, etiquette, social skills exercises, preparatory classes using affective skills, and interviewing/job skills & strategies. In addition to these exercises, we have group discussions regarding peer relationships, parent/child relationships and student/adult relationships. The students in the T.R.U.E. Girls program will also benefit from hearing guest speakers discuss a variety of important topics, community service field trips, and community outings that will require the young ladies to utilize the skills they are learning in the program in real life situations.     At Rise of Champions, we provide a safe and inclusive space for young men at Berkmar to connect, engage in various activities, and cultivate meaningful social interactions. Our goal is to foster a supportive environment where they can develop strong character and social skills.

    We envision Rise of Champions as a vibrant hub where young men connect through exciting games and activities, building strong character and essential social skills, becoming a force for good in their communities.

Our Purpose
    Is to promote a sense of camaraderie and enjoyment through participation in fun and enriching experiences.
