Message from Athletic Department

Berkmar High’s athletic department mission is to conduct team programs in a manner that will develop student-athletes in academics, athletics, and character.  The Berkmar High Department of Athletics is committed to providing education through sports and building the Berkmar Brand.  We want our student-athletes to be champions in competition, classroom and community.

Berkmar values the lessons taught by athletic participation: ethical and responsible behavior on the field and off; adherence to rules and to the spirit of rules; leadership and strength of character; the pursuit of excellence through personal development and teamwork. While winning is not our primary goal, we believe that the efforts by our teams to be their best will lead them to success.

Athletics plays an important role in creating a sense of pride and community at Berkmar. It is important to remember that the student-athletes are playing a game intended to be challenging and fun. Although the student-athlete puts much emotion into preparing for and competing in athletics, both the athlete and spectator must not allow emotion to rule one’s behavior. Sportsmanship demands respect for one’s opponents and officials, acceptance of victory with humility, acknowledgement of defeat with grace. In teaching these lessons to ALL students, Berkmar instills habits that will lead students to better and healthier lives. Players and spectators must be “good” sports and demonstrate sportsmanship all the time, win or lose.

We look forward to seeing you at the next Patriot event!  Go Patriots!
